Wednesday, March 04, 2009 Quick Cowled Tunic
Pattern: Quick Cowled Tunic designed by Jill Gutman Schoenfuss/"January 2009 Creative Knitting."
Finished Size: 47½" (chest); 24" (length). Tunic is meant to be oversized; size Small. Yarn: Plymouth Encore Worsted Colorspun 75% acrylic 25% wool; (100 g {200 yards}): #7990 Drifting, about 5 balls. Needles: Clover Bamboo US 8 24" circular, US 8 straights for cowl. Comments: Beginner Knit. It fits wonderfully and it's so warm. On the cold days we've been having this Winter, it's perfect! I love the color too. The pattern calls for Caron yarn, but I liked using the Encore instead. ![]() And Haste Makes Waste. I originally sewed the cowl on backwards, had to pull it out, and do it over--hence my disdain for finishing work. I also did the shoulder seams over as I didn't have my finishing book handy originally. I have no patience for finishing . . . . ![]() ![]() ![]() And the start to Ollie (stay tuned)! ![]() Labels: sweaters Thursday, February 12, 2009 on the needles. . . .
I'm knitting myself the Quick Cowled Tunic from Creative Knitting/January 2009 magazine. I'm not finding anything real quick about it. It's very easy and straightforward, but since it's knitted in worsted weight yarn, it doesn't go as fast as a bulkier knit. The monotony of it could be part of it too.
![]() ![]() I have one side done, now just working on the other side, then the cowl, then of course my favorite part--finishing it together, yuck. I do like the colorway--Drifting by Plymouth Encore Worsted--and hope to wear this for the remainder of the winter. Stay tuned! I got a package the other day from Mary Maxim: sock yarn from Patons in Sugar, Taffy and Plum--yum! I have a stretch tube sock pattern that I hope to make for Christmas gifts--can't get started too soon--especially at the amount and time I have to knit lately: ![]() Labels: sweaters Saturday, June 25, 2005 Finished mom's sweater!
I finished last night! Got a second wind. Hope it fits mom. It should. Gauge is a funny thing, though. I made this same sweater (my hoodie), this doesn't have the hood, and even without counting the absent hood, I've used one less ball of yarn on my mother's sweater than I did on mine. Hmmmm.
![]() Here is me wearing the sweater in 100+ degree F. heat today. In my capris too--how fashionable is that? ![]() Labels: sweaters Saturday, June 11, 2005 Front piece and one sleeve to mom's sweater
It's 90 degrees and the three H's here. Hazy, hot, and humid. I've been in a 'knitting slump' because of it so I haven't picked the needles up in like two weeks!
Here is the finished front piece of mom's sweater and one sleeve finished: ![]() I leave long ends for finishing. I hate finishing and am dreading that. I also bought two more Elizabeth Zimmermann books: ![]() I already have "Knitting Without Tears." I love to read her books. Labels: knitting library, sweaters Wednesday, January 26, 2005 These two sweaters are my favorite right now!
Well, here in the Boston area it's snowing yet again. If it weren't for these two sweaters of mine (I knitted them last year), I don't know how I'd get through this particular winter.
These sweaters are definitely warm! This one is mohair, wool and acrylic blend (Cleckheaton's Gusto 10). It has a boatneck and ¾" sleeves: ![]() This one is a LionBrand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick one--so warm and it has a great hood: ![]() Labels: sweaters |
